Nutrition surveillance is one of the key strategic objectives within Action Against Hunger.  Within the context of Gaza, the Nutrition and Health Department seeks to 

a) provide technical leadership for nutrition surveillance activities

b) implement surveys to inform programming 

c) contribute to nutrition surveillance systems.  

In 2026, the department seeks to expand and reinforce these efforts, in response to the increasing need for high-quality and timely data on related factors and outcomes in Gaza.  A variety of surveys and monitoring efforts will be expanded to have a primary focus on the sentinel site survey in Gaza, which is the purpose of this position. 


Key activities in your role will include

The Nutrition Surveillance Officer will be responsible for all Gaza-level aspects related to the data collection of any health and nutrition survey activities.  This involves management of the enumerators on the field, liaise with the program manager, make the plan for the implementation of the survey, and disseminate the necessary information to the enumerator teams.    

Objective 1: Coordinate the implementation of any nutrition and health surveys at Gaza level

  • Prepare the field-level plan for survey activities to be implemented by ACF to ensure that all data collection objectives are achieved
  • Serve as the primary contact point with key community stakeholders related to survey activities
  • Complete the necessary internal processes related to staff, logistics, supply and finance 
  • Provide feedback to the Nutrition Program Manager 
  • Engage with key stakeholders on the nutrition surveillance system 
  • Contribution to technical and methodological discussions as relevant

 

Objective 2: Ensure the high-quality implementation of survey activities

  • Ensure that all staff are appropriately recruited, trained and allocated to achieve survey objectives
  • Supervise the activities in the field of all survey staff
  • Ensure the quality of the data that is collected by the staff 
  • Communicate any operational issues to the Nutrition PM, Area Manager, HoB and any other relevant staff
  • Ensure that all issues at field level are identified and addressed
  • Provide technical guidance to enumerators as necessary
  • Ensure that all requirements and internal guidelines for data collection are followed. 
  • Ensure that all survey activities uphold the principles of confidentiality and informed consent
  • Ensure adherence to organizational data protection policies and ethical guidelines.

 

Objective 3: Reporting and dissemination

  • Provide regular updates on the status of the data collection
  • Ensure all data collected is suitably managed and submitted at field level
  • Support the dissemination of any survey results to relevant audiences 
  • Coordinate with any data analysis staff at coordination level to support timely and accurate data analysis

 

Objective 4: Proactively support ACTION AGAINST HUNGERs commitments to gender equality, child protection and disability sensitivity 

  • Read and ensure a full understanding of Action Against Hunger’s Gender Minimum Standards & Child Protection Policies, asking questions and/or for support when necessary
  • Implement all work-related activities with a gender, disability and child protection lens, considering the different needs, concerns and ideas of our staff and beneficiaries 
  • Ensure the incorporation of gender equity principles in all policies and activities 
  • Encourage the participation of all genders in meeting and on committees 
  • Help build an inclusive office environment where people do not feel disadvantaged or judged according to their gender or limited due to manageable disability.   

Do you meet the profile required criteria?

 

Training:

Background in epidemiology, public health, statistics, nutrition, medicine, or related health field. Data collection.

Technical specific knowledge:

Humanitarian nutrition assessments (SMART, Coverage and IYCF/KPC surveys)

Nutrition research projects 

Information management

Advanced quantitative statistical skills 

Previous experience (years):

1 year experience in health and nutrition activities, survey implementation, or field data collection.

Humanitarian sector knowledge:

Experience in an NGO an advantage   

Organization knowledge:

Experience of Action Against Hunger an advantage

Languages:

English and Arabic

IT systems:

MS Office (Excel/Word/PPT); strong Excel for data cleaning/analysis

Kobo/ODK 

Mobility (national/ international)
