Community Engagement/Distribution Assistant

For 6 months with the possibility of extension 

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

Under the supervision of Community Engagement Officer, the Community engagement and Distribution assistant is responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of community-based WASH activities, leading community mobilizers in hygiene promotion during various situations, and supporting data collection and surveys. The role involves coordinating with schools, NGOs, governmental bodies, and community committees to execute field activities, including hygiene education, water handling, and public health hazard mitigation. Responsibilities also include planning and monitoring emergency WASH interventions, such as the distribution of essential materials, water quality monitoring, and providing training to community stakeholders on gender-sensitive water and sanitation practices. The individual will ensure the quality of hygiene promotion activities, identify gaps, propose new initiatives, and support in rapid emergency response planning. Regular reporting, effective communication with supervisors, and timely documentation of project activities are essential, alongside providing ongoing training and support to focal points, committees, and team members to promote sustainable and inclusive community networks. 



Key activities in your role will include

Assist in conducting Community awareness campaign:

  • Implementation of Hygiene promotion and public health activities (Assessment tools preparing and data collection, workshops, trainings, initiatives and peer to peer activities) during the campaigns.
  • Assist in designing activities such as, theatre plays, quiz competitions, photo exhibitions, mural painting, clean-up campaigns and interactive awareness workshops in the community and schools. 
  • Assist in designing project activities tools 
  • Assist in community mobilization collaboration with the community mobilisers to ensure the maximum participation. 
  • Assist in the MBFS activities and participatory activities together with the Nutrition team to ensure synergy between programs

Organize discussion groups and working groups with the target group:

  • Mobilize and inform the schools manager and coordinators on project activities. 
  • Provide sessions, discussions, and disseminate informative materials to the target population through field visits.

Provide WASH items and services’ delivery:

  • Ensures that the delivery of supplies to community representative for IDP’s camps is in accordance with the required quantity, quality and timing and that he have the knowledge to ACF forms and Kobo tools. 
  • Ensures execution of WASH emergency interventions which can include, but are not limited to: 
  • distribution of essential materials for household, baby, and family hygiene, accompanied by detailed guidance on proper management and significance. 
  • collection, treatment, storage, transport and distribution of water. 
  • water quality monitoring and training on treatment and safe storage.
  • Coordinates closely with IDP centers, camps and households hosting IDPs or any representative at the distribution point
  • Ensures timely collection, transport and delivery of materials.  
  • Reporting and coordination

Daily reporting of field activities to the Community Engagement officer:

  • Archive all materials delivered, beneficiaries’ attendance, obstacles and constraints that to be considered for reporting and monitoring and/or evaluation tools and indicators
  • Participate in filling the project data on Beneficiaries Information System (BIS) and archive all the project documents 
  • Participate in the preparation and collection of data for communication, advocacy and capitalization purposes (case studies, etc)
  • Any other new related tasks.

Do you meet the profile required criteria?
  • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3-year experience in hygiene promotion in WASH and/or public health background (community/public health, WASH, nursing…)
  • 2 years’ experience of working on emergency responding Hygiene promotion activities.
  • Sense of confidentiality – Skilled activity leader - good listening, good communication and adaptation capacity.
  • Excellent communication skills and have extensive knowledge of ways to deal smoothly with all sectors of the community. Has good empathy and patience.
  • Have a minimum knowledge on WASH, hygiene promotion and/or public health practices
  • Have the capacity and motivation to learn more in a short space of time
  • Implementing during the emergency and post emergency activities 
  • Proven relevant field behavior change experience in WASH and/or public health
  • Knowledge in Humanitarian programming
  • Fluency in reading, writing and speaking Arabic and English
  • Knowledge in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet

  • Salary: according to Action Against Hunger salary scale.
