WASH Assistant - Services

For 5 months with the possibility of extension 

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

The WASH Assistant will be responsible for the identification and collection of needs and request and delivery of goods and services to alleviate the suffering of the people affected by the humanitarian crises in the Gaza Strip.

He/she will participate in and be responsible for different planning, management and coordination with various actors: community volunteers, counterparts, activists.

He/she will support the general execution of activities by contributing with knowledge and experience to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the actions.


Key activities in your role will include

Participate to the identification of needs:

  • Conduct data collection and registration of IDPs as relevant. 
  • Participate to conduct infrastructure (networks) and facilities (e.g. desalination plants) assessments mainly to identify the damage caused by the war and the repairs needed. 
  • Coordinate with daily workers and social workers hired to ensure data collection. 
  • Compile information received and ensured data entry or reporting as relevant on the data collected. 
  • Support the emergency interventions of the organization as per the employee’s abilities. 
  • Support any activity that helps reach our humanitarian goals, as per the employee’s abilities.
  • Promote gender equality within the humanitarian and/or development work 

Provide WASH items and services’ delivery:

  • Supervises water truckers’ execution and other services, ensuring their compliance with the agreed terms, technical quality, execution on time, and security measures.
  • Ensures that the delivery of supplies to community representative for IDP’s camps is in accordance with the required quantity, quality and timing and that he have the knowledge to ACF forms and Kobo tools.
  • Ensures execution of WASH emergency interventions which can include, but are not limited to:
    • a)        distribution of essential materials for household, baby, and family hygiene, accompanied by detailed guidance on proper management and significance.
    • b)        collection, treatment, storage, transport and distribution of water.
    • c)        water quality monitoring and training on treatment and safe storage.
  • Coordinates closely with IDP centres, camps and households hosting IDPs or any representative at the distribution points.
  • Ensures timely collection, transport and delivery of materials. 
  • Reports in a timely manner to his/her supervisor, proposing solutions to solve difficulties encountered and documents all project actions according to the necessary means of verification. Immediately informs his/her hierarchical and/or functional manager of any situation that is hindering or may hinder the proper development of the work, for the timely and joint making of the necessary corrective measures and decisions.
  • Generates technical reports on the progress of the activities in charge.
  • Collects of information of interest to the project.

Logistical and administrative management of the distribution and field activities under his/her charge 

  • Close coordination with transporters and service suppliers
  • Archives all means of verification and information (physical and electronic) of the different activities carried out within the project.
  • Schedule, together with the project's technical team, the weekly execution of activities in coordination with the other technical and support departments.
  • Delivers the information (physical and electronic) regularly and the latest one week before the end of the execution of its part of the project to the coordinator of the component.
  • Flag any difficulty or complaint received to its management and propose way to improve ACF delivery processes. 

Collaboration in security measures:

  • Transmits in a timely manner all the necessary and complete information to guarantee safety in the areas of action. 

Do you meet the profile required criteria?
  • Diploma or degree in a relevant field such as engineering, public health, social sciences, or related disciplines.
  • Familiarity with WASH activities, including Water trucking, Solid waste management, Desludging, Hygiene kit distribution, Data collection tools and methods
  • A minimum of 1 year in a similar role, ideally with an NGO or the UN, Experience in emergency WASH interventions is strongly preferred. Private sector experience may also be considered.
  • Dynamism and the ability to prioritize and plan effectively.
  • Strong commitment to honesty and humanitarian principles.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment,
  • High levels of adaptability and teamwork spirit.
  • Arabic (required), English (preferred).
  • Advanced command of Windows, Office, for information management and reports.
  • Proficiency with IT systems such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD, Teams, and Outlook for information management and reporting. Knowledge in GIS is considered a plus.
  • Valuable prior experience in issues related to the promotion of gender equality or personal commitment to gender equality.

  • Salary: according to Action Against Hunger salary scale.

  • 21 days holiday for year.
