Action Against Hunger (AAH) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-political, non-denominational and non-profit making organization working in the Palestinian Territory since 2002. 

Action Against Hunger is recruiting in Deir Al Balah a 

 

                                                  MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning) Assistant

 

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

  • Support the implementation of MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning) activities.
  • Ensure alignment with AAH MEAL minimum standards and mission SOPs.
  • Work under the guidance of the MEAL Manager.
  • Focus on strengthening program quality.
  • Contribute to effective data collection systems.
  • Support accountability mechanisms.

Key activities in your role will include

Objective 1: Monitoring and Field Visits

  • Plan and participate in field visits based on the MEAL and project workplans. 
  • Coordinate with MEAL team and program staff to ensure effective field data collection aligned with donor requirements and context changes. 
  • Assist in preparing monitoring reports and proposing corrective actions based on findings. 

Objective 2: Support MEAL Systems and Reporting

  • Support monitoring of project activities by MEAL plan and ad-hoc requests. 
  • Assist in post-completion monitoring and evaluation to assess the impact of interventions. 
  • Contribute to systematic documentation of best practices and lessons learned. 
  • Support data collection using mobile platforms, including interviews and surveys. 
  • Assist in data analysis and visualization, and in drafting relevant reports. 

Objective 3: Accountability                            

  • Apply data protection protocols and obtain informed consent from participants. 
  • Uphold humanitarian principles and core AAH values in all interactions. 

Objective 4: MEAL Plan Implementation

  • Participate in kick-off meetings and present MEAL-related content. 
  • Assist in track progress against indicators and keep MEAL documentation organized in shared systems. 

Objective 5: Feedback and Complaint Mechanism (FCM)

  • Manage the FCM, receiving and filing complaints according to protocol. 
  • Support the dissemination of FCM information among staff, partners, and communities. 
  • Follow up on received complaints to ensure resolution and accountability. 
  • Conduct regular field visits to assess FCM access and quality. 

Do you meet the profile required criteria?
  • University degree preferred in social sciences, information technology, economics, statistics, international relations, software engineering with professional experience in Monitoring and Evaluation within the humanitarian sector.
  • Monitoring and evaluation, IT knowledge.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working in the MEAL department within humanitarian aid organizations, international donors, or the private sector. 
  • Proven skills in both qualitative and quantitative data collection, as well as reporting. 
  • Hands-on experience conducting field-level data collection activities, including Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), and Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices (KAP) surveys.
  • High ethical principles.
  • Good communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Solid organizational skills: the ability to be flexible and work well under pressure in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, interpersonal qualities and diplomacy. 
  • Good in reading, writing and speaking both Arabic and English.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft office: especially on word processing, spreadsheets, database and analytical software. 
  • PowerPoint desirable, ODK/Ko-Bo smart data collection tools is a plus.
  • Valuable prior experience in issues related to the promotion of gender equality or personal commitment to gender equality.

  • Contract Length: 06 months with possibility of extension pending donor approval.
  • Based: in Deir Al Balah.
  • Salary: according to Action Against Hunger salary scale.
